Mail Order Promises Montana Mail Order Brides Book 2 edition by Julianna Blake Romance eBooks

While I thought this was a well written and touching story, after reading this second book in the series, I'm not sure they're the kind of romance I'm looking for. This was a very sad, heart wrenching story that has a happy ending. I feel like these are more about women wanting to run and hide from bad situations (in this case a devastating, violent one) rather than the usual books I've read about the women leaving home specifically to find kindness and love with a man that they can build on to have a happier, better future.
While the story of Lily and Jake is a good one, We again have a bride hiding a horrible secret, terrified that it will come to light, as well as a groom who has his own ghosts from the past. Instead of a light hearted, happy building romance, it's more about the struggles of hiding things from the other that prevents them from really getting to know and love the person they're with; though in the end it works out. While I thought it was excellent writing, I'm afraid I'd have to agree with other reviewers who have said there is a darkness about the whole story. I did feel the added entrance of the ex wife and then the violent situation that develops after Jake and Lilly were married and worked through their secrets, was too over the top; at least for me. The ex wife suddenly showing up after all those years and then the violence Lily became a victim of was just way too much and kept the story too dark for me.
I read it because, as I said the writing was very good and kept your interest. It's just not the lighthearted, slightly troubled but easy going type of romance I like to escape to. I enjoy the ones that I come away feeling happy & smiling about, knowing they are fiction and not very realistic but still uplifting and as I said, a happy escape.
Each time I put this book down, I came away from it feeling sad and even slightly down pretty much to the end. Yes, it all works out and has a happy, very good ending but the sadness throughout is not a place I enjoy going. I read my romantic fiction to escape the violence, sadness and hardships we have to see on the news each day, this was not the book for that. I will remember this well written story but not as a pleasant, enjoyable escape to go to sleep at night smiling from.
I plan to read the next book because I enjoy reading series but if it's as deep and dark as this one, I'm afraid I won't be continuing with the whole series. I'll find some more light hearted, happy, fantasy filled fiction to read. It's a,shame because the writing was truly very good.

Mail Order Promises Montana Mail Order Brides Book 2 edition by Julianna Blake Romance eBooks Reviews

Another great read by an author who puts more story in her book then sex and violence. Yes life is definitely not all we would like it to be, but that is why we have romance novel's, something that takes us to the happy ending we all romantic's want.
He soooo does NOT deserve her!! He is so distrustful that he lashes out before stopping to think. He is lucky she loves him and is more understanding.
I so enjoy reading mail order brides serials. But I have really really enjoyed the "Montana Mail Order Brides" series the most. I have read many of Juliana Blake's writings. Her books are of the most wholesome and clean reading I have come across. The reader is kept wrapped with steady interest from beginning to end waiting to see what mayhem or trouble the couples will be getting themselves into next.
Should Lilly hide her past from her mail order husband? Will he believe her? What happens when his first wife comes back for a town visit? How does Jake’s past haunt him? Enjoy the suspense!
Although Lilly kept the "happening" a secret, I thought she was courageous to head out to Montana. I find the 1800's a fascinating time in history. Women were very vulnerable in those days, more so than today. Poor Jake had his own secrets. Unfortunately, Mail Order relationships started immediately upon meeting. It's difficult enough to work at a marriage when you've known each other for months However, love will always win. I look forward to reading more of your work.
This book was well written, but the story just wasn't for me. There was too much bad, not enough good. Even though I know it was probably very common back then, there were too many rape references for my tastes.

I've been reading a lot of mail order bride novels lately and while each bride has her dilemmas, I think this one just had too much for me. The excerpt from the next book looked more enticing, and like I said the author writes well, so I will still read it, but I hope any future books are a little happier!
This is the third book I have read in this series, and it did not disappoint. Lily Watkins escapes Boston and an unwanted marriage planned by her parents to a man who had done an outrage to her. She quickly decided to become a mail-order bride out of desperation. Jake Morgan, the man she was to marry in Montana had experienced one marriage that had left him angry and untrusting. So, when Lily is married to him and within weeks realizes that she is "with child" by the man who had attacked her three months earlier in Boston, Jake could not understand and became irate with her. But, in the end the family doctor gave advice that Jake heeded. In the meantime the new doc in town who was as bad as the man she had left in Boston, tried to take her life out of jealousy and rage was killed by the doctor friend who was taking care of Lily.

There are many details in this novel, some which seem at bit out of place such as the return of the first wife. But, overall it is good reading.
